CORAL REEF COMING TO WASHINGTON, DC
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History crocheted coral reef exhibit opened in the museum's Sant Ocean Hall on October 16, 2010 and will close in April 2011. This is mainly the new reef crocheted by local area crocheters and knitters; in addition, many of the best pieces from the original famous crocheted reef started by Margaret Wertheim and her sister are on display.
There was also a special opening reception to honor all those who participated in the creation of the exhibit.
Originally scheduled for October 16, it had to be postponed due to a huge water main break right
in front of the Museum's main entrance, but it was finally held on November 20,
which happened to be my first opportunity to see the completed project.
Following are photos of some of the types of shapes that were made for the exhibit.
For more pictures of individual types, check the photo gallery, Coral Reef Pix.
That page also now has photos of the completed project, too.

If you would like an instruction sheet for making these shapes, please email me

and I will send you a set of directions.
